Water for India Campaign
Hartford Art School
Student Social Responsibility

Project goal:
Our campaign aims to teach the values of cleanliness, respect and sharing using images and universal languages. The goals were to convey the importance of sharing, respect for water resources and sanitation.
Project result:
We implemented the campaign at the village of Abheypur, India in January 2009. Three sets of 4 posters were printed on vinyl and left as teaching tools for the local NGO and the local girls’ elementary school. A mural conveying our campaign message was painted at the girls’ schoolyard. An collective cleanup of the school grounds was conducted and, as a reward, the kids were given T-shirts with the campaign logo and a coloring book with crayons.
Since the implementation, the school for social research at our school went back to the village to do a cultural assesment of the project (in tandem with an Engineers Without Borders initiave) and found out the teachers are using the banners to teach the kids the values of cleanliness, sanitation and respect for resources. Also, the school cleanup has become a recurring activity during the school day. There was a significant change in the girls’ pride for their school and community.
