Project goal:
The San Francisco Bay Area is the latest front in the nationwide effort to ban the plastic bag. The bag has some powerful allies in the plastic industry who have been suing Bay Area residents to stop these bans. Free Range teamed up with the crusaders at Save the Bay to create The Bay vs. The Bag campaign.
Project result:
This video played a crucial role in Save the Bay’s 2009 pollution prevention campaign. Within the first week of the video’s launch, Save the Bay’s website traffic increased twofold from their average number of monthly visits. The Bay vs. The Bag was an integral tool in helping to fund the Governor’s Ocean Protection Council to create a Master Environmental Assessment, enabling cities around the Bay Area to more efficiently evaluate their environmental impact. Santa Clara County Recycling and Waste Commission passed a motion to recommend a ban on single-use plastic carry-out bags at all retailers and a fee on paper bags, to be adopted by cities around the Bay Area in November 2009 and go into effect by April 2010.
